Curriculum Level 1 & 2

Welcome to Level 1 & 2 at Rangeview Primary School.  We provide a comfortable and enjoyable learning environment where children can confidently take risks and achieve to their maximum potential.

In Level 1 & 2 we aim to allow all children to experience a wide variety of activities during a daily 100 minute Literacy block. During this Literacy block we allocate time for both reading and writing.

Parental involvement, in the form of assistance for small group activities, is an integral part of this program.

One feature of our Literacy curriculum is a continued and expanded focus on the Letterland program which is introduced to the students in Level 1. Reading and spelling strategies from the THRASS program are also introduced in Level 1 & 2 and carried on through the school.

Children learn the strategies to become independent readers and writers through independent reading and conferring with the teacher, as well as using their Writer’s Notebooks.

For children who require literacy support, we offer selected students participation in the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program.

In Level 1 & 2 we aim to provide 5 hours of Numeracy per week. During this time, students experience many problem-solving and hands-on activities. One of the high points of our year’s Numeracy program is the celebration of 100 Days of School.

All children attend a 45 minute weekly session in the computer lab, as well as having access to computers in their classrooms. The children have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of computer activities relating to all areas of the curriculum. They regularly access the school intranet where they can confidently navigate to their very own folder.

Integrated Studies

Main theme topics are integrated into all areas of the Level 1 & 2 program, thereby providing stimulating opportunities for the children to enhance and expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

Integrated Topics

Integrated Studies allows the children to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. We study a range of units and each topic usually involves an excursion or incursion.
